Acrobatic skate boarders in Valencia City Centre deemed to be a nuisance

The Skate Boarders of Valencia and their acrobatics and clowning around, are now a cause of concern here in Valnecia City.

It's Friday at 6 p.m. in the afternoon. The strong hours of the weekend shopping begin and out come the skate boarders.

If you ask them to move away, to them it's an insult and they then threat you. At that moment ten young people arrive on their skate boards and start all type of acrobatics.  The spectacle would be fantastic, except that they are using the structure of the bust erected in honor to Blasco Ibáñez to practice their abilities, besides blocking the pavement for passers by.

For this reason, already they have had more of a run-in with some of the retailers.  One stated that “There are broken windows in my skylights and I have had to cover them.  If I mention this to them and ask that move away, they insult you and they threaten you. The police do not take action and I have sent four letters to the City council, but it has not served for anything”. Thus, this retailer has had to listen to their insults.  This is not an isolated case.

In fact, the association for the recovery of Historical Archive Centres showed yesterday its preoccupation with the proliferation of this practice in other places, such as Manises and asked that “alternative spaces” are provided.

Local Police can fine skate boarders up to 150 Euros and confiscate their boards, if they use them in a pedestrian zone.
