Valencia City SpainValencia Local Police initiate a campaign to detect "Taxis Pirates" in Valencia
The reduction of the volume of work is not the unique problem derived from the crisis, that must confront the taxi sector. The difficult economic situation has caused the number of "Taxis Piratas" that act without a license to increase.
For this reason, the Local Police started, on Monday 5 of January, with the recommendation of the Conselleria of Transports, a campaign to detect these illegal taxi drivers. Until now, the police have issued only a dozen fines. The majority for not having a taxi drivers licence, not having a Taximeter or failing to carry a fire extinguisher.
On the other hand, the president of the Trade union Association of Taxi drivers, Antonio Muñoz, has explained that in 15 days they revised tariffs on 3,000 taxis and that with the taxi meter it is impossible to cheat the customer. the reason being that there is a chip in each one with the new tariff.
Muñoz is also in favor of these controls because in the days of a crisis always there is more infiltration by illegal taxis, mainly in hotels and airport.
