The enormous storms that were forecast for yesterday were as good as the forecasters predicted, with deluges affecting Calpe, Santa Pola, Elche, Benidorm and Torrevieja amongst many other coastal towns. In the Castellon town of Benicarlo fifty litres per square metre fell in just 24 hours, and surprised campers in Benicassim who were waiting for the Rototom SunSplash Festival to begin this weekend.
These storms are now expected to head northwards, but are still capable of dropping 50 litres per square metre in an hour. One person died in Castellon after the storm resulted in a small building on the beach where some equipment was kept was blown over onto him.
