The Valencia Life Network reports...With the ashes of the monument created by Pedro Santaeulalia covering the Town Hall Square last night, the Falla season of 2010 finally ended.
However, all concerned are now looking to 2011 in a state of some uncertainty, as the contracts for the Fallas this year had been signed before the financial crisis started to hit. Just moments after Maria Pilar Gimenez, the Queen of the Fallas asked expert firework technician Vicente Caballer to ignite the final monument, deals were already in the making for next year, with one thing in mind: cost reduction.
This may well become apparent over the next few days, when the Special Falla Federation is expected to pass a decree limiting costs to one hundred thousand Euros for a large monument and a quarter of that for the Infant section.
However, this does not sit at all well with the Falla manufacturers, whose president Jose Latorre accused the Federation of probably causing the loss of about a thousand jobs in the workshops.
