The Valencia Life Network reports....Ernest Bertarelli, the President of Alinghi, yesterday welcomed Richard Branson to the base in Valencia, and showed him the Americas Cup. Mr Branson, who went aboard the giant trimaran whilst he was in Valencia, has also expressed an interest in creating a syndicate that would compete in the 34th Americas Cup. Mr Branson also stated that he had also been having discussions with the British TeamOrigin syndicate, and that he would also be appearing later in Valencia as the Virgin Formula 1 cars are being unveiled
Meanwhile it appears that the chances of racing today are put at 50%, with no start until at least midday, as better conditions are expected to prevail this afternoon, but even that may not be sufficient. As explained by Joan Vila, a navigator with Alinghi: These boats reach speeds of up to forty knots and when they hit a wave at that speed, it is like a Formula 1 car hitting a barrier at top speed. These boats are not conceived for rough conditions.
