The Palau de les Arts in the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia - pictured at night by Vicent Bosch above - has made profits of 47.6 million Euros in the first three seasons, and has managed to attract some 470,000 people to see the various events it stages.

In presenting a report of the activity of the palau, Cultural Consellera Trini Miro stated that further success was also achieved thanks to two main conductors Lorin Maazel, who is the Musical Director for the Palau and Zubin Mehta, who is in charge of the Mediterranean Festival  that has attracted 106,000 visitors.

During this period, some 35 operas have been staged, and thirteen of these were in-house productions, as well as 91 other events, all of which has been possible thanks to the efforts of the Consell of the Valencian Government who merely throw at us breadcrumbs in terms of financial aid, she stated, and this is set to be just 1.2 million Euros this year, which is fourteen times less that the Socialist Government spends on the Liceo ,in Barcelona, the Consellera added.
