It's called the principle of the town halls getting as much as they can!  This is a follow on from the dispute between Manises Town Hall and AENA over the rates being charged for Valencia Airport.  (See our news article of 14th Decmebre). 

Now the Valencia Life Network reports this morning: -

Certain Town Halls in the Valencian Community have had the luck to have what have been termed as major installations running through their municipalities such as motorways, airports, dams, nuclear power plants or electricity generating stations, and under the new laws are allowed to charge them a higher rate.

It appears that only AUMAR, the company that runs the concession for the AP 7 motorway has paid all that was demanded of it, but the Spanish Airports authority AENA has refused point blank to pay the taxes demanded of it by Manises Town Council.

In Sagunto, a similar stance has been taken by the Port and a local gas company, whilst in Cofrentes the Council is considering what to charge the local nuclear power plant.  Our photo is of the Nuclear Power Plant at Confrentes, taken from a restaurant car park on the hill.
