Victory for La Vila!! After this weekend’s game against CRC Madrid, it seems La Vila Rugby Club has a lot to smile about.  After an intense and physical game, one in which both teams were fighting for their position on the log, the scoreboard showed a gratifying 24-18. 

La Vila started out strong in the first half.  From the outset their attack was intense, yet disciplined.  While they clearly dominated the ball, the first points of the game came from penalties.  After two converted penalties from Agustin Gómez, and a penalty for Madrid, Martin Aceña produced the first try of the game in the twenty second minute.  The team as a whole performed well throughout the rest of the first half, with Ryan le Roux’s try in the fortieth minute pushing La Vila up to a good lead of 18-3 at half time.

Early in the second half, Madrid seized a breakaway opportunity from inside La Vila’s twenty two.  And while La Vila worked persistently in their defence, they were unable to prevent another try from being scored later in the half.  Ultimately though, Madrid’s renewed strength was not sufficient to win the game.  The result of the game favoured the home team, with a final score of 24-18. 

Next week La Vila plays Gernika in the first round of the King’s Cup Tournament.  The King’s Cup comprises of the top eight teams in the Spanish Premiership League.  The home game will take place on Sunday 29^th November at the Villajoyosa Rugby Stadium.  Kick off is at 12pm and drinks and snacks will be on sale as usual.  Don’t forget that under 18’s get in free, so bring the kids along for a family day out.

La Vila Rugby Club is situated at Carratera Pantano, Villajoyosa.  Take AP-7 exit N° 66 (Villajoyosa).  At the first roundabout head for the mountain.  The club is about 1km from Motorway exit N° 66.  Or take the Villajoyosa by-pass, and take the middle exit.   At the first roundabout, bare right towards the motorway entrance and at the second roundabout bare left towards the mountain.
