Stunning new Bridge opens in Valencia City Spain

The latest creation by Valencian Architect Santiago Calatrava was opened in Valencia yesterday. Called the Assut d'Or, the bridge crosses the old Turia River bed near the City of Arts and Sciences, is 180 ,metres long and has three lanes of traffic on either side. Dominating the entire structure is a huge curved mast that points 123 metres into the sky.

In the first 24 hours after being opened, the bridge of l' Assut of l' Or registered the passage of 30,000 vehicles,  half in a Northerly direction and the other half heading south.

The councillor of the Circulation of the City of Valencia, Alfonso Novo, added that the new bridge is capable of taking 70,000 cars a day.  He addded that the traffic on the first day was more than expected.  He also stated that he expected that now the bridge was open that it would improve the flow of traffic in from the El Saler motorway, remove the traffic from further along the banks of the Turia and already it had reduced this by nearly 50%.

One driver confirmed that it will save him considerable travel time each day.
