Torrevieja seeks drop in IVA taxes.
The spokesman for Torrevieja’s Popular Party, Joaquin Albaladejo Martinez has asked the PSOE Central Government to consider lowering the IVA/VAT charges levied on the city and other locals within the Valencian Community from 16% to 7%. The reasoning behind the request is to help with the economic operations, payment for supplies and services, to help further develop the city and cut back on the accumulated debt.
He stated “The present situation of economic crisis by all means presents a diverse and complex basis that affects all the economic and productive sectors in our City councils. For this reason, we are conscious that it is advisable that the Local Administration obtains a rigorous financing that assures a suitable benefit for public services.”
Local city councils continue to have liquidity problems and at present any reform for new local financing has been set back until 2011! However, local councils think that to wait this length of time for a review of finances is too much of a delay and are approaching Central Government with new ideas to help rebuild local economies.
