Torrevieja - drink driving crackdown

Continuing the collaboration between the city of Torrevieja and the body of the Civil Guard on Saturday night and early Sunday, the Local Police and Civil Guard conducted a joint security control on alcohol and drugs.

The incorporation of test narcotics detection system in saliva has been a novelty in the city and has been performed with remarkable success after its first day of use. Its future use will help increase security levels for citizens in the area in general.

The security check began at 23:30 hours of Saturday 19 and concluded at 06:30 pm on Sunday, 20. Statements in the same a total of 16 staff consists of 9 Local Police Officers and 7 of the Civil Guard agents.

Control was established in two locations in the night, with both located very near the nightlife areas or in inner ring roads of the city.   They inspected a total of 61 vehicles, with 12 vehicles impounded for several reasons.  7 drivers gave a positive result for alcohol and were booked. 2 drivers were detained for Encroachment on Road Safety (driving under the influence of alcohol) and 4 drivers tested positive for the Drug Test.

The Local Police in Torrevieja are reported to be proceeding with a collaboration with the Civil Guard for the alcohol tests using this narcotics detection system in saliva.
