Description:
A report from the Valencia tourist office indicates that Valencia is looking good for tourists again!
The initial figures released for the summer season have delivered favourable results for the Region of Valencia. In the month of July, the Region was the second most popular destination among Spanish residents for overnight stays, representing 14.5% of the total figure, according to data published by Spain’s National Institute of Statistics (INE). It was also the only Spanish destination to register an increase in the number of tourists arriving from the UK.
Specifically, according to the latest Frontur survey conducted by the Institute for Tourist Studies (IET), the numbers of British tourists travelling to the Region of Valencia increased 2.8% in comparison with July 2008, in contrast to the 16.1% decline registered in the rest of Spain. These results coincide with the promotions run by the Valencian Regional Government in major UK cities in the months leading up to the holiday period with a view to maintaining the Region's level of competitiveness.
There has also been a strong increase in visits to the Region of Valencia by French and German tourists, up 35% and 28%, respectively. Belgian and Swiss tourism also increased by 11.4% and 11.9%.
As for domestic tourism, the Region of Valencia registered the third highest growth rate after Catalonia and Andalusia, with year-on-year growth of 4.2% in overnight stays. The Costa Blanca continues to register the highest levels of tourist occupancy, with close to 250,000 Spanish residents choosing this area.
