Agreement to upgrade hotel industry in the province of Alicante
The Costa Blanca Provincial Tourist Board has signed an agreement with the Benidorm and Costa Blanca Hotel Trade Association (Hosbec) to develop programmes to improve the hotel industry in the province of Alicante. This agreement will see the Tourist Board contribute 36,000 euros and is a continuation of the accord signed recently with the Province of Alicante Hotel Association (APHA) for the online promotion of hotels in the province.
The latest agreement is further proof of the Tourist Board's commitment to promote the hotel industry, one of the tourism sectors that is responding favourably to the current economic climate. In fact, during the month of July, the hotels on the Costa Blanca recorded average occupancy of 71.92%, up 3.7% from 2008 according to data from the Hotel Occupancy Survey conducted by Hosbec.

The Hosbec agreement is one of a series of actions carried out in close cooperation with hotel owners and the tourism sector in general that have helped temper the seasonal nature of tourism by drawing visitors to the province of Alicante throughout the year.
Other Tourist Board actions include an advertising campaign on the sides of 500 buses in the United Kingdom promoting the Costa Blanca as a tourist destination, an agreement signed with Turespaña to promote the province on the international market, and the Costa Blanca road show that toured Spain in June and July to encourage last-minute bookings by Spanish tourists.
Furthermore, September will see inland Alicante host three stages of the cycling race Vuelta a España 2009, while in November the Alicante Trade Fair Institution (IFA) will be welcoming the international congress entitled "The Best of Gastronomy", which has previously been held in San Sebastián (Guipúzcoa).

Alicante's Provincial Tourist Board has recently signed another agreement to cooperate with the Province of Alicante Hotel Association (APHA) to promote the province's hotels over the Internet.
This action, funded by the Tourist Board with 15,000 euros, will be carried out by way of a campaign featuring sponsored links on search engines such as Google and via various specialist forums within the tourism sector.
