Update on AWA

On Friday 24th July I met with José Ignacio Ochoa García, the Director of Marketing and Sales for AWA Group along with Jacqueline Regina Christina the local Sales Manager and Andrés Cheda de los Rios the local engineer.

Following the comments in the July issue of BRITCHAT, AWA issued a letter via email which was published in Guide2Valencia.  This is far too long and dry to appear in Britchat, so I met up to get some facts for you.

The staff had been built up to 180 which was far more than required and they actually grew too fast.  So, they have now cut back to 45 which is where they should be for the size of company.  They maintain that down-sizing occurred using the official government’s ERE procedure.  They also maintain that all staff on their books are being paid and those present verified this fact.  Those who were made redundant are still going through the process.

AWA actually started in Castellon and cover the whole of Spain and now have a close tight nit team of 45.  They are concentrating on better systems in the Network operations Centre and have plans to outsource other services as they grow.

They pointed out that they are involved in partnership with Sermicro.com in a large Valencia Provincial project called “Sona La Dipu Valencia WIFI” which is worth 40 million Euros over 10 years when 40,000 more customers will be added, with 2,500 in Valencia.  There will then be 30,000 AWA customers in the whole of Spain.

They have just signed up Pobla de Valbona and Bilbao, so WIFI can be rolled out in both areas. They then have over 200 towns connected in Spain. They also maintain that they have re-signed with Montserrat Town Hall for another year, Our contact in Montserrat Town hall has confirmed the contract renewal with them.

El viernes 24 de julio me reuní con el Sr. José Ignacio Ochoa García, el Director de Marketing y Comercial del Grupo AWA, junto con Jacqueline Regina Christina Gerente local de Ventas y Andrés de los Ríos Cheda el ingeniero local.

A raíz de las observaciones en el número de julio de BRITCHAT, AWA emitió una carta por correo electrónico que se publicó en Guide2Valencia. Esto es demasiado largo y denso para aparecer en Britchat, así que resumiré a algunos de los hechos para usted.

AWA comenzó en Castellón hace diez años, con una gran vocación de servicio y con el objetivo de abarcar todo el territorio nacional. El crecimiento fue muy rápido y llegaron a contar con una estructura de 180 trabajadores, que era muy superior a sus necesidades reales. Igual que otras grandes compañías, han tenido que redimensionar su estructura operativa mediante un Expediente de Regulación de Empleo (ERE) hasta disponer en la actualidad con un número de 45 trabajadores, estando la empresa al corriente de sus obligaciones para con ellos.

Ellos se están concentrando en mejorar la atención al cliente en el Centro de operaciones de red y tienen planes para subcontratar otros servicios a medida que vayan creciendo.

Señalaron que están participando con Sermicro (empresa de servicios tecnológicos del grupo AC) en un gran proyecto denominado “Sona La Dipu, Valencia WIFI” para toda la Provincia de Valencia, por un valor de 12 millones de euros en diez año, aproximadamente unos 40.000 clientes más que se añadirían a los 2.500 con los que AWA ya tiene en Valencia. Actualmente AWA tiene más de 30.000 clientes en toda España.

Ellos acaban de inaugurar una red junto con el Ayuntamiento de La Pobla de Vallbona y otro en Bilbao, así que puede ser detectada su red WIFI en ambas áreas. Actualmente están en más de 200 municipios en toda España-  Afirman también que han vuelto a firmar con el Ayuntamiento de Montserrat por un año, Nuestro contacto en ayuntamiento de Montserrat ha confirmado la renovación de contrato con ellos.
