Francisco Camps includes Torrevieja Tram plan in London Transport dialogue

Description:

Francisco Camps includes Torrevieja Tram plan in London Transport dialogue

It's not often that the UK Rail and transportation network is held in high regard however last week the President of the Generalitat, Francisco Camps, was in London and met with three of the major transport operators in Europe with the aim of studying the latest advances in transport that could be implemented in Valencia.

Torrevieja has long been the subject of talk within the community because of the lack of a rail link to 'anywhere' but it is one of the pet projects that Torrevieja's Mayor Mateo has stressed to President Camps. During a full day of meetings Camps was impressed by the fact that some of the top pioneering experiences in Europe, primarily those that involve High Speed Trains, could be used as "models that might apply to AVE's Valencia Region."

The AVE is a regional project to improve high-speed mobility and the competitiveness of the area of Valencia. It consists of distinct sections; some of which are currently under construction; Mediterranean Corridor (North Leg: Valencia-Castellon-Airport-Maestrat-Tranche Els Ports, South-Villena Xativa-Valencia-Alicante-Elche-l'Altet -Orihuela); three are Tram routes Utiel-Requena (Valencia-El Rebollar-Requena Utiel-) along a stretch of the coast (Denia, Gandía-Valencia-Benidorm-Alicante) and the proposed route for Torrevieja (Torrevieja-Mediterranean Corridor Tranche Sur) with plans to link the city to the Airport and the Alicante AVE station.

Camps, conducted a review of this first day in London, "we talk about all kinds of public transport but we need to have a rail network to provide our community and give us all the potential for the advent of high speed trains in Valencia, Alicante,  Castellon and the Mediterranean."

With Torrevieja being the fifth largest city in the community, surveys are already under way as the best route to follow to implement a coastal Tram route from the city to points in Alicante.
