Description:
The subject of Citizenship Education will not now be given in EnglishThe second section of the Chamber of Justice of the Comunitat Valenciana (TSJCV) has annulled the most controversial points about the teaching of this area planned by the Generalitat Valenciana.
The decision triggered demonstrations and strikes relating to the teaching of the subject in English. Thus, the ruling overturned the most controversial decisions of the Valencian Government (PP), which had used the unions CCOO and the Bar of the State. The latter, like a large segment of the educational community of Valencia, understood that the rule sought to boycott the subject on ideological grounds and looked outside the law to make them in English.
The judges believe that this move by the government is contrary to law and, on the first of the appeals, stated in the ruling that a motivation "confusing, contradictory and inconsistent to argue the need for the subjects to be taught taught in English in schools of the Comunitat Valenciana.
The Council always said he was looking for multilingualism. In fact, this controversy ignited the flame of a series of demonstrations, sit-ins at the institutes and ultimately in a strike that put education on the ropes at the Department of Education. The Executive autonomy have always ensured that the decision to have EpC in English was part of a plan to fully achieve trilingualism in the classroom between Castilian, Valencian and English.
What happens next? This turn of events inevitably affect the development of class the next year in Valencia, because the subject is taught in primary and 5 º 2 º ESO. In this final year, the institutes have used two teachers per classroom, and have not had the material in Castilian or Valencian thanks to a moratorium by the Department.
For the next year, the Government had established itinerant teachers capable of giving the subject in English and with a degree in geography, history or philosophy, given the scarcity of teachers who meet these requirements.
