John Fogerty opens his European Tour in San Javier
The sign read “John I’ve been waiting for you 40-years to shake your hand” and since patience can be a virtue, he received his wish. The John in question was the one and only John Fogerty, best remembered for having such hits as Proud Mary and Suzy Q with Credence Clearwater Revival, who kicked off his European Tour with an appearance at the San Javier Jazz Festival last Friday night.
A full house of over 2,000 fans rocked in the aisles and in front of the stage for a full two hours of what could best be described as country guitar rock; not quite what one usually expects at the Jazz Festival. Then again, nobody was there that didn’t want to be. They knew exactly what to expect and Fogertyand his superb band, delivered in style.
Fogerty said: "I will never forget this night in San Javier”, before completing his first ever concert in Spain. The youthful looking 64 year-old has been in the music business for over 40-years, so it’s maybe a surprise that he’s never played Spain before. A great night of music for all that witnessed it, even if the auditoriums speakers where pushed a little harder than would normally be expected of them at the Jazz Festival! A great night of rock’n’roll.
And what of the remaining nights this week? Thursday July 16th -Wynton Marsalis & The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, one of the top jazz outfits is here,; Friday July 17th it’s the Enrico Piernanunzi Trio followed by the Jazz Samba rhythms of the Brazilian All Stars. Saturday July 18th promises to be another great night with Sole Giménez and the Victor Bailey Group performing and, for those still in need of hearing some excellent guitar sounds, you won’t want to miss Steve Winwood on Saturday 25th.
