Description:
Don't lose your Mobile phone line and number. The Spanish Interior Minister, Alfredo Rubalcaba, has launched a campaign entitled ‘identificate!’ (identify yourself), aimed at millions of pay-as-you-go mobile phone users who must register their details by November 9 or be cut off. According to a law passed on November 9, 2007, mobile phone operators must keep a register of clients’ identities, principally for crime prevention and detection purposes.
The law allowed for a two year period in which to become completely enforced. The estimated number of people in Spain who have not yet registered is in the region of 15 million.
Users can register at any location covered by that operator. They will need to produce their Spanish DNI (ID) card, passport or foreign ID card. Companies must produce their ‘tarjeta de identificacion fiscal’ card.
After November 8, mobile phone operators must cancel or deactivate unidentified SIM cards and users will lose their line and number.
