Valencian Fallas festivities this year will be hit by the Spanish recession

Various Fallas Chapters met yesterday at Valencia University.  The discussion centred on the best way forward in the economic crisis.

It seems that in the economic downturn many companies were not subsidising local Fallas with their donations, as in past years.  This will probably mean that about 100 chapters will merge with their neighbours until things improve. 

We think that although this is sad and a shame for the local residents, as there were so many Fallas for the tourists, there will still be too many to see in one night.  So English speaking people living here and the many toursits will still have plenty to see in Valencia!    However, for those like us who wandered round in the weeks prior to the Crema, then there will not be as many to see and take wonder at!
