Description:
2009 CAR RENTAL MARKET has less cars & higher rates reports Car Hire WarehouseAs with most other industries, the car rental industry has been badly affected by the economic slowdown. Less people are travelling, some are travelling less often, many are leaving booking their holidays until very late, the exchange rate (especially the £ sterling against the US$ and the euro) has dropped significantly.
All these factors are making life difficult for the rental companies. As a result they have up to 40% less cars on their fleets for this summer - so if you don't book early you may have real trouble even finding a car as happened to many people at Easter.
And this doesn't just apply to the usual limited availability cars such as convertibles and people-carriers, it also applies to the Ka, Fiesta, Focus and right across the range. The exchange rate problem has caused car hire rates to rise almost everywhere but most noticeably on the Spanish Costas and on the Balearic and Canary islands.
They had an e-mail from a major Spanish company this week confirming another rise in their rates for summer cars.
