Dogs, cats and hamsters attack five people in Valencia every week. Animal aggression in Valencia Spain is causing a problem.

It seems strange that this could happen in Valencia City, but there is a problem with people being attacked by what used to be house pets.  Fancy visiting a relative or a friend and on the way you are attacked, or even attacked by the pet in the house you are visiting. Imagine leaving with your hand bitten by their dog.

Thus it is that  250 Valencians in 2008 were recorded by the Valencia City Council of Health.  205 (70.7%) of the attacks were carried out dogs and 42 by cats. In the case of any aggressions committed by dogs, the Town hall is obliged to demand that the owner registers their animal as potentially dangerous. The potentially dangerous dogs must be walked with a short chain and muzzle. When the animal remains in house it must be controlled properly so that it does not escape. If the dog attacked again then it will be destroyed.

Not only dogs and cats caused problems last year against humans but there were also registered attacks of three rabbits and three rats. In addition, a hamster attacked a person and two ferrets bit several people. In the case of these animals, the Town hall also pursues them, but the owners do not have the obligation to register them as potentially dangerous, unless such aggressions were committed by crocodiles or poisonous or mammalian fish of more than 10 kilos.

The council of Health in the past has initiated seven investigations into potentially dangerous dogs that attacked people. Five of them were Pitt Bulls, one was a Bull Terrier and another one a different breed. Sources of the council explained that it is necessary to respect and be carefull of an animal if its a dangerous breed.
