The Technological Institute of Plastic investigates new biomaterials. 10 companies in Valencia to Participate along with the Valencian Association of the Industry of the Automotion of the Valencian Community

The Technological Institute of Plastics (Aimplas) in association with the Technological Network of Automotion (Redita), is to participate in a project to investigate and develop biomaterials from resins and natural fibers such as oil from soya beans, linen or hemp, which are destined for the automobile industry.

These innovative materials will provide better sound & thermal insulation in automobile applications, such as for lateral, roof panels and roof, as well as in panels to separate the engine comparttment from the passenger compartment. In addition, they could also be used for the structural elements of the vehicle bodies.  These are all materials that do not produce irritations or other effects on the security and the health of the occupants.

This project is framed within the Program of Special Relevance of the Conselleria of Industry, Commerce and Innovation, and there will be 10 SMEs from the Valencian Community taking part ain addition to the Valencian Association of the Industry of the Automotion of the Valencian Community (AVIA).  The others involved are the technological institures Aimplas, Aimme, IBV e ITE, with the coordination being handled by Redita.

The investigation comprieses of the making of the vehicle panels and other pieces from reinforced plastics with natural fibers such as linen, hemp, jute or soya bean. These materials have certain advantages over the traditional ones: they come from renewable sources, they are abundant and economic, they have less weight, they are biodegradable, they do not have a negative effect on the processing systems and they do not produce irritations or other effects on security and health.
