Sudden drop in Temperatures

The abrupt drop in temperatures over the weekend to around 11 degrees in Castellon in only a day, has caused that the landscapes of the province to turn to pictures of winter in what should be spring.

It began to be snow-white on Saturday and by the afternoon and night over 900 meters in the Penyagolosa, Vilafranca, Castellfort.  In Morella and the Tinença de Benifassà they got to around 5 centimeters of snow. There were no significant problems on the roads, although the snow arrived accompanied by intense fog.

Then followed more light rain yesterday and snow in the interior. According to the State Meteorology Agency (Aemet), is anticipated that the snow and rain will extend until today but with the same moderate intensity with snow in the highlands.

The fall in temperatures announced for the weekend have meant that thermometers have fallen 15º C, in less than 24 hours, registering negative temperatures in some zones. In the region of the Highlands it has both been raining continuously during the last few days.

Rescue

At Titaguas they rescued about 30 8 & 9 year old campers, with their leaders that had been going to spend the weekend in the environs of the Turia river and who were rescued by the Civil Guard, forest services, city council and voluntary neighbours of the town, to spend the night in the towns social centre.

Temperatures

With respect to the temperatures principles in the Valencia Comunitat they  underwent reductions yesterday between moderate and remarkable, with respect to the previous day, with an average of 4 and 5 degrees. They emphasized Castellfort, with eleven degrees less, ending up at 4 degrees, and Utiel, with nine degrees less and regisering 8 degrees.

In the province capitals, the greater reduction experienced Castelló, with a drop of five degrees to 14 degrees and as much in Valencia as in Alicante there was a drop of four degrees and they were also 14 degrees.

Rain.

As far as the rain was concerned, in 24 hours they registered in Chelva up to 55 litres of water by square metre, followed by Andilla with 54. They also emphasized Ayora with 40 and Elda with 39. In the capital Valencia 8 litres per square meters of rain, which was a little more than Alicante and Castelló with only an average of 5 litres per square meter.
