Description:
More than a thousand workers at Ford at Almussafes in Valencia will be unemployed for 8 months when the night shift is stopped.
The announcement of the fourth change in the last six months paralyses the negotiation of the collective agreement between workers and management.
The purchase of cars used by immigrants has fallen by a staggering 85% in the Comunitat de Valenciana .
Yesterday the Management of the Ford factory at Almussafes cleared up the uncertainties on the future work for the workers of the night shift manufacturing vehicles as of May: It will ask for another change of us of the regulation (ERE) made in September of 2008. The proposal is to make redundant 1,100 employees until the end of year. This is a drastic decision that faces the automobile company with the difficulty of relocating the personnel of this shift which in total number 1,300.
The reason is that there was a fall in sales of 58% so far this year when comparing it to the same period last year. The Valencia plant will be reduced to producing 285,000 vehicles (Fiesta and Focus), much is a reductionfrom the 400,000 cars previously. This is due to the collapse of sales in Europe, the main market for the export of cars made at Ford Almussafes.
This period of eight months is the longest of the four changes made since last year. In addition, there appears to be no change to the wages of the workers affected by the ERE (the INEM guarantees 70%), unlike the negotiated temporary dismissals to date: 990 workers during three months between October and December of 2008, as well as the 5,177 during the planned 16 days between January to June of this year.
