Fallas are now all in place in Valencia in abundance

The Fallas now all in place in Valencia in abundance and the judges were out visiting all the Fallas monuments to choose the best Fallas for 2009 in Valencia Spain.

All the Fallas will be burnt on the 19th March except one that is to be preserved in the Valencia Fallas Museum.  This is the Ninot of Quart-Palomar which has obtained 13,595 votes, well ahead of the others: Jerusalem Convent (5,693 votes), Cabin-Espadán (2,644 votes) and Nou Campanar (1,463 votes).

It remains to be seen whether as much will be spent in 2010 or whether budgets will be chopped.  It was rumoured that Nou Campanar spend nearly 1 million Euros this year and they normally win.  It has been said that they may need to cut bacl to about 240,000 Euros next year and people wonder whetehr that will make them quite as competitive as a result.

One Fallas monumnet was brought in from Argentina.  It was the first Fallas monument ever to be built outside Valencia. It took a 22-day journey by sea from Argentina, where artist Federico Felici had created it for the Vall de Laguar/Padre Ferris Falla Chapter. Ricardo Galan, the President of the Chapter, stated that the distance between Argentina and Spain was not an unsolvable one and that Mr Felici had been a Falla artist creating monuments in Valencia prior to returning to his native country. The Falla had been transported inside a container some seven metres high, divided into four compartments, and inspections prior to its departure from Argentina had led customs officers making several holes in the various pieces to ensure that no drugs were concealed inside, but these were repaired after it arrived in Valencia. Mr Galan also revealed that the monument had been created out of recyclable materials, including cardboard boxes and pallets.

So, there are now only a few days left to visit Valencia and see the amazing works of art, before they are all burnt around midnight on the 19th March!
