Description:
24 hour a day services on Valencia Metro and buses during Fallas! Valencia Fallas will be served well in 2009 with 24 hour a day bus and metro services during the Fallas Fiestas. The FGV Metro will work from the 14 to the 20 of March 24 hours of the day and the EMT bus service will give continuous service from the 16 to the 19 of March.
There will be uninterrupted service of metro and buses during the main week of the Fallas in Valencia. The Valencians will be able to enjoy the Fallas without having to jump in the car to get there. This is thanks to the Ferrocarrils of Valencian Generalitat (FGV) and the Company Municipal de Transportes (EMT). This is because the Railway Independent Union (SIF) have decided not to strike during the celebrations this year.
Thus, the FGV will advance their uninterrupted service of the Valencia metro and tram service from Saturday 14 of March and will extend it to Friday 20th March. Sources for the organisation have explained that a great demand from travellers is anticipated.
In addition, FGV will boost their service for the previous days 1st to 8th of March from 12 hours to 16 hours on the occasion of mascletaes. There will be no strike this year and instead more frequesncy of trains. Last year, the strike of their workers caused the service to be significantly reduced. This year the Railway Independent Union (SIF) have decided not to strike in the Fallas as they are in negotiations with the company. If the negotiations stagnated, it would be possible to take strike action but more in the long term, so it will not affect the Fallas.
On the other hand, the Company Municipal de Transportes (EMT) also has predicted, at least, to give an uninterruptrd service from the 16th to the 19th of March, according to the president of the Committee of the Company, Jaime Col: Three shifts will be made to extend the regular service until the 4 am, so that it will be almost overlapped with the beginning of the day. Some services start at that hour anyway on the most important lines like the buses on lines 89, 90 or 2.
It will cost more to take taxis, whereas the metro and the buses will reinforce their service during the celebrations, the taxi sector does not predict such liberalisation to their service so that the taxis will work when they want during the Fallas, as has happened in previous years. Thus, it will be the same as any other days, according to the president of their Trade union Association, Antonio Muñoz. This will make it more difficult to call a taxi with the increased numbers of clients during Fallas.
