Civil Guard confiscates 4,600 kilos of illegal swordfish in Valencia.

The Civil Guard of Valencia took part yesterday in the seizure of a total of 4,600 kilograms of swordfish, that had not been declared.  The investigation related to two companies with facilities in Valencia and that were then going to be distributed in Italy.

This form of illegal fishing causes an important decrease of the fishing-grounds. For days, agents of the Commands of the Civil Guard of Valencia and Alicante were investigating the illegal fishing of boats that did not declare to the authorities when surpassing the established quotas.

For this reason, device established that it gave yesterday his fruits on 00,30 hours, when the Civil Guard inspected a truck that transported a total of 4,600 kilograms of swordfish (Xiphias gladius), at the time it was being unloaded in the facilities of two companies located in the province of Valencia.

The fish were followed from Almeria-Palm route of Majorca-Valencia, where they has been part taken to be prepared for onward distribution to Italy.

This form of illegal fishing supposes an important decrease of the fishing-grounds since a maximum quota of captures exists.  Unfortunately this quota is widely ignored and is not controlled when not declared to the respective market. So, using these facts, the agents of the Civil Guard took action yesterday and denounced the infractions committed.  These were consisting of not declaring the fis caught and also the lack of labelling.
