Description:
From a birds eye view, Cullera reveals itself as an arc formation that embraces the Mediterranean, whilst extending to what is known as the ‘Montaña de Cullera’ (Cullera Mountain) or the ‘Sierra de las Zorras’ (The Sierra of the Foxes).Located on the left bank of the river Júcar, this cosmopolitan population has some enviable beaches and an exceptional natural environment with a large fresh-water lagoon, the ‘Albufera nature reserve’.
The wealth of landscape is completed by a variety of crops, which change the colour of the countryside with each season of the year.
The natural environment of the population has its beaches as protagonist. Nevertheless, the mountains, the river Xúquer, the l'Estany and the Sant Llorenç lagoon are also enclaves of great interest for visitors that look, for example, for a days fishing or a natural space to explore, with the only fluvial port in the whole Valencian Community.
In summer, the beach is filled with the temporary facilities with which to practice windsurfing. All year round, the municipal sports centre, and a marvellous covered pavilion offer, volleyball, indoor football, basketball, badminton, rhythmic gymnastics and handball, as well as different types of martial arts.
Castle
From the Bronze Age to the Muslims occupation, the different civilisations left vestiges in the enclave of the Castle, which has a weapons courtyard, also known as the Cistern courtyard, because of the deposits found beneath it, several large rooms and a Gothic chapel.
The walls conserve four towers: the Celoquia tower or Main tower, the Red tower or the Swedish tower, the round Cap d'Altar tower and the Respatler tower. Tuesday to Sunday: 10 to 13h. In summer the timetable is extended to include evenings.
Fallas
More than a dozen Fallas monuments are constructed in Cullera celebrating the day of San Jose. Music and the gunpowder take centre stage in a festive programme that also includes the offering of flowers, other cultural acts, “Mascletàs” and parades.
Easter week Festivities
Sobriety is one of the principal characteristics of the processions of Easter Week in Cullera, where parades are programmed in which all the local fraternities take part. The procession of the Holy Burial, on Good Friday, and the Meeting, on Sunday, are the two of the most important events.
