Description:
A small elevation of land shelters Cheste, an area that, judging by the vestiges left behind here, has been populated for over thousands of years.
Its proximity to the capital has not made it lose its personality, instead it has beenaccentuated by the "Ricardo Tormo" speed circuit which receives thousands of visitors who find here an out-standing enclave from which to enjoy the attractions that this part of the region offers.
Fallas
Fireworks in all their manifestations: "tracas", "mascletaes",
"despertàs" and fireworks are protagonist with the "Fallas" monuments.
The widespread celebration of the Fallas has in Cheste a peculiarity in
the exaltated position of the "falleras mayores" and the processional
floats, traditionally made of wood and "papier mâché".
In 2008 they were held between the 15th and 19th of March. In 2009 this will be Saturday 14th to Wednesday 18th March.
Access
| The
principal access is via the A-3, the Valencia - Madrid motorway, though
it can reached on the CV-50, which connects Llíria, Cheste and Tavernes
de Valldigna. Cheste also has its own railway station. Handicrafts The handcrafted techniques have been kept alive in the tradition of embroidery in the complements that adorn the apparel of the typical dress of the "chestana". The skirts and "tocas", which cover the dresses, are traditionally elaborated, by hand. THE PARISH CHURCH OF ‘SAN LUCAS EVANGELISTA’The temple is included amongst those built under the procedures of the Rococo style, its facade presents three arches separated by Corinthian columns. It also has a bell tower built between 1761 and 1779, which reaches a height of almost fifty metres.
Inside the temple frescos and paintings can be admired, and, in the sacristy, is a beautiful ceramic border from the XVIII century.
Excursions and Beauty-spotsThe Carcama is the highest plateau on the plain where the municipality is situated. On the towns border with Chiva the "Alto de los Mojones" raises, 400 metres in altitude, whilst in the Sierra de Aliagar, reaches the maximum altitudes of the area, from where excellent panoramic views can be contemplated. GastronomyCheste´s gastronomy has adapted the traditions of the most demanding palates and has turned their local dishes, such as the "arrope con calabaza y boniato" or the "mogete chestano", into the specialities of its menu. The shepherd\'s "gazpachos", rices, stews and casseroles complete a rich and tasty offer. Whilst "guinda", the local co-operative society elaborates one of the best Valencian muscatels. COMUNITAT VALENCIANA RICARDO TORMO CIRCUITComunitat Valenciana Circuit is named after Ricardo Tormo, a famous Valencian motorcycling world champion and it's located in Cheste in the Region of Valencia. It's an installation that houses different sports events among which outstands the Gran Premio de la Comunidad Valenciana, a race that counts towards the World Motorcycling Championship. It's a great pleasure for lovers of motor to follow any motorcycle, truck and Formula1 single-seater races, in which acclaimed pilots participate, that can be clearly seen due to the spectacular visibility of this sports installation.
